This image is the epitome of “the Geographic moment”, It is the result of preparation, anticipation and luck captured with skill and never to be repeated. These are three young Spotted Eagle Rays that came together just for a moment in a shallow lagoon at night. I spent three hours each night for three nights hoping to get this.

Courtney Platt's first appearance in National Geographic was "Down the Cayman Wall" in 1988.  Six NG assignments later, Courtney is still in Grand Cayman, with some of the best coral reefs on the planet in his back yard.
