  Bloody Bay Wall

A Hawksbill Turtle poses in front of "Great Wall" on Little Cayman Island.  Four species of sea turtles live in the Cayman Islands, although Hawksbills are considered "critically endangered", and they are all on the list. When Columbus visited in 1503, there were such vast numbers of sea turtles that is was said that one could "walk ashore on the their backs".  Turtle fishing was a way of life there until the turtle population could no longer support a turtle fishery.  With the establishment of marine parks, protection from hunting and volunteers that monitor nests each breeding season, the turtles are making a comeback.
